Dr Viran de Silva
Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician
Viran is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician who deals in the assessment, prevention and treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries and exercise related medical problems. He completed his specialist training through the Australasian College of Sports Physicians in 2018.
Viran is originally from Darwin and spent his junior years working at Royal Darwin Hospital before moving on to Fremantle Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital where he completed a number of terms including Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Pallative Care, ENT, Paediatrics and Intensive Care.
Following a broad medical background Viran settled on a career in sports medicine after seeing the positive experience a sports physician can have on an individual’s pain, functionality and overall wellbeing.
Viran has been involved in a variety of team sports including as medical officer for the U17 Australian Women’s Basketball Team, Adelaide Crows Women’s AFL Team (Darwin), U20 Cronulla Sharks Rugby League team, and is currently the involved with the NT Thunder and NT ThunderW AFL Teams. He has also been match day doctor for the Subiaco Lions (WA) AFL team, Sydney FC Soccer team and covered the 6ft Track Blue Mountains Ultra-Marathon on several occasions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery - James Cook University.
- Fellow of the Australian Sports & Exercise Academy.

- All Musculoskeletal injuries, but particularly involving the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle.
